Moral of the story: Do not gossip and focus, focus, focus.

1) Focus on your experiment.

2) Always check whether you are actually doing what you want to do. For example, if you want to measure the boiling point of water, then do it and not measure the boiling point of the glass of the test tube. Stop gossiping.

3) Make sense of what you're actually doing. For example, if you want to measure the boiling point of water, place the thermometer in the test tube containing water. Do not stare at the other test-tube and wonder why your water is in the other test tube when it should be in your test tube. Stop gossiping.

4) Do something. For example, when you realized that the water is in the other test tube when it is supposed to be in yours, wake up and start to wonder how and why did your water 'teleport' to the other test tube. Stop gossiping.

5) SHUT UP. For example, it you see that the thermometer is reaching beyond 100 degrees celcius, revise what the teacher had said in class, "water boils at 100" and then immediately seek advice from the teacher. Do not wait till the mercury reaches the tip of the thermometer and then shout, "teacher!"

You could have died.
